Lage

15 minutes west from Kamloops:
Located at the confluence of the South and North Thompson Rivers where residents enjoy year-round outdoor activities including easy access to great skiing. It is a young, vibrant city which allows the best of everything both the city and the country has to offer, and just a scenic 3 ½ hour drive to Vancouver.

Property History:
In 1880, having journeyed overland by rail to San Francisco and then by ship to Victoria, Neil James Beaton (age 26, born Markdale, Grey Co., Ontario Dec. 1854) and partner Randall Young (age 32, born Ireland 1849) homesteaded and farmed beside Duffy Creek approximately 13.5 miles west of Kamloops in Cherry Creek. They chose a pleasant and sheltered site upslope from the valley and Cherry Creek proper, at the Ponderosa timberline. Neil was the eldest son of Alexander (b.1827) and Katherine (b.1823) Beaton, who had emigrated from Scotland to Ontario in the 1850s (prior to 1857). He had three brothers, Angus (b.1856), John T. (b.1863), and James Alexander (b.1877). His brother Angus accompanied Neil to British Columbia in 1880. Both Randall Young and Neil Beaton are listed as residents of Cherry Creek in the 1882 voter’s list; Angus Beaton is listed as resident of New Westminster (he worked as a blacksmith). Brothers John T. and James A. would arrive years later; all were prominent individuals in the Kamloops area.
